Nostalgy
My first erg test was done on a Gjessing rowing ergometer, with Henk-Jan Zwolle supervising the test. First time I sat on such a machine.
Soon after that, our club, Roei- en Zeilvereniging Naarden (the rowing part later continued without the sailing, as Roeivereniging Naarden), collected money to buy a Concept2 ergometer for their juniors to train.
I have spent quite a lot of time looking at the PM1 screen.
And now a bunch of pictures from my current club’s Christmas party. We had 300m Concept2 relay races (5 teams of 7, mixed between 5 and 55 years of age).

American Crawl
No training today. Erg race tomorrow.
Repairing the club house tables, we found a 1912-1920 club chronicle in a drawer in one of the old tables.
One of the reports is from a race weekend in Hodonin, where someone “demonstrated a new swimming style, American crawl”. The written comment of our club ancestor from 100 years ago expressed astonishment: “The swimmer had his mouth under water all the time. He must be breathing water!”
Didn’t want to withhold this from my readers. A hundred years ago there was tremendous progress in sports. Let’s not be conservative!
A fantastic find, this old document.
